OFFICIAL TRAIL STATUS · CHECK BEFORE DEPARTURE

Check your exact trail before you leave.

“Partial control” does not tell you that your chosen section is open. Open the park’s control list on the morning of the hike, match the Korean course or section name, and obey gates and ranger instructions.

FIRST-TIMER ANSWER

Choose the day,
then the gate.

“Bukhansan” is not one entrance. Your subway, bus stop and descent must match the route you choose.

BEST HISTORY + SCENERY

Bukhansanseong

Enter from 북한산성입구, pass the fortress corridor and climb toward Baegundae. Longer, but easier to understand as a continuous valley-to-summit journey.

Allow most of the dayView course →
NO SUMMIT PRESSURE

Daedongmun return

Use the Ui/Suyu side for a forest-and-ridge outing to 대동문. It avoids the final Baegundae rail section and works better when summit crowds or exposure feel wrong.

Still a real mountain hikeCompare routes →

FROM KOREA NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

A quieter way
to meet Bukhansan.

You do not have to climb to the summit to enjoy the park.

RANGER PROGRAMME

Explore fortress history

The park lists a 90-minute Bukhansanseong programme with a nature-observation trail and stories about Daeseomun and the fortress gates. It meets at 북한산성탐방지원센터, 45 Daeseomun-gil, Eunpyeong-gu.

PLAN BEFORE BOOKING

Confirm the session

Check the official reservation page for current sessions and availability. Ask whether English interpretation is available. Weather alerts can cancel a session; wait for booking confirmation before travelling.

READ THE TRAIL GRADE

Choose for your fitness

The park grades trails using slope, distance, surface and expected time. Check the official course description, entry-time restrictions and closures before choosing your route. An attractive photograph does not show every difficult section.

WHEN THE MOUNTAIN CHANGES THE PLAN

Turn around
before trouble.

Granite, wind, ice and crowds can change a short route into a serious one.

WET / ICY ROCK

Skip the summit rails.

Polished granite becomes extremely slick. Use traction in winter and never step outside the fixed safety line.

WRONG VALLEY

Return to the last sign.

Do not follow a crowd. Match the Korean gate name saved on your phone before every descent junction.

THUNDER / HIGH WIND

Leave exposed rock early.

Baegundae and open ridges offer little protection. Descend toward forest before conditions worsen.

INJURY / LOST

Call 119 early.

Give the nearest 다목적위치표지판 location code. Park office: 02-909-0497; Dobong office: 031-828-8000.

GET TO THE RIGHT GATE

Four sides.
Four different trips.

Transit routes change. Use the exact Korean destination below in Naver Map or KakaoMap on the morning you go.

1

백운대탐방지원센터

Best anchor: 북한산우이역. From the terminus, walk uphill toward Doseonsa or use a taxi to the Baegundae support center.

Summit route · steep final graniteOpen map ↗
2

북한산성탐방지원센터

Best anchor: 구파발역 Exit 1 or 2, then bus 704 or Yangju 37 toward 북한산성입구. The park lists about 10 minutes on foot from the stop to the support center; confirm the live service.

Fortress valley · longer summit dayOpen map ↗
3

백련공원지킴터

Best anchor: 수유역/우이동 side. Search the exact ranger-post name and compare the final bus plus walk before boarding.

Daedongmun course · forest/ridgeOpen map ↗
4

비봉탐방지원센터

Best anchor: 불광역 or 구기동 corridor. The last neighbourhood walk matters; pin the visitor-support point, not only Bibong.

Short distance · steep rockOpen map ↗
5

구기탐방지원센터

Best anchor: 불광역/연신내역 with a local bus toward 구기동. Confirm the exact alighting stop in a live transit app.

The park lists the course, while live city transit should determine your bus on the day. Save both the outbound gate and the return stop.
