Subway Wi-Fi

Get connected before your next transfer.

A practical connection guide for visitors to Korea. Availability and sign-in rules vary by station, train and provider; a visible network is not a promise of free access.

Connect in four steps

  1. 1

    Check the network name

Read the official station sign or ask staff for the exact Wi-Fi name (SSID). Do not trust a network just because its name contains “Free”.

  2. 2

    Open your phone settings

iPhone: Settings → Wi-Fi. Android: Settings → Network & internet → Internet; some phones use Connections → Wi-Fi. Turn Wi-Fi on and select the confirmed network.

  3. 3

    Complete sign-in, if requested

Open the network’s sign-in notification or welcome page. Choose English if available, read the terms and follow the provider’s instructions. Use only credentials supplied by that provider.

  4. 4

    Check and save your route

Open your map or a web page to confirm internet access. Save screenshots of the line, transfer station, direction, exit number and destination before boarding.

Which connection are you using?

Station public Wi-Fi

Connect where official station information confirms availability. The network name and login process may differ between stations. There is no single password for every subway network.

On-board or carrier Wi-Fi

Some networks require an eligible mobile subscription or SIM authentication. A foreign SIM or tourist eSIM does not automatically include access: check the provider’s terms.

Your mobile data

If Wi-Fi is unavailable, switch to your activated SIM/eSIM or roaming plan. Check charges and allowance first. A data-only eSIM may not receive Korean verification texts.

Connected, but still offline?

The sign-in page does not appear

Open the Wi-Fi sign-in notification. If none appears, disconnect and reconnect, then open a browser. If the page still fails, ask staff or use mobile data. Never bypass a certificate warning.

A password or Korean phone number is required

Ask staff or your mobile provider whether you are eligible. Do not guess shared passwords or use someone else’s verification code. Choose another confirmed network if you cannot complete authentication.

The connection drops when the train moves

Station coverage may end as you leave. On-board service can also vary. Use saved route screenshots or available mobile data, and reconnect after stopping safely.

Wi-Fi is slow or shows no internet

Move to a safe place closer to the posted access point, toggle Wi-Fi, or forget the network and join again. If it still fails, try another confirmed connection. Do not reset all phone network settings as a first step.

Before entering personal or payment details

Confirm the network with staff, use official apps and HTTPS websites, and prefer your mobile data for payments. Do not install a profile or certificate from an unexpected login pop-up. Turn off auto-join for public networks when finished.
