K-MEDICAL · INDEPENDENT PLANNING GUIDE

Plan care.
Not promises.

A clinic’s social feed is not a treatment plan. Start with a registered provider, a named clinician and a written proposal you understand—then plan travel around recovery, not the other way round.

Emergency in Korea?

Call 119 for an ambulance. Do not delay urgent care to contact a travel agent, coordinator or this website.

BEFORE YOU PAY

Six checks that change the trip.

Keep every answer in writing. If a coordinator answers, ask the medical institution to confirm the clinical details directly.

  1. 1

    Verify the provider

Search the government-supported Medical Korea register. A foreign-patient registration and an accreditation are different things; check the exact institution and branch.

    Registered hospital search ↗
  2. 2

    Identify the clinician

Ask who will examine, treat, anaesthetise and review you. Request the clinician’s specialty and confirm whether anyone may be substituted.

  3. 3

    Get a written clinical plan

It should name the procedure or test, alternatives, material or device, meaningful risks, recovery limits and the conditions that could change the plan.

  4. 4

    Price the whole episode

Ask what the quote excludes: tests, anaesthesia, medicines, implants, overnight stay, interpreter, revisions, pathology, complications and follow-up.

  5. 5

    Lock language support

Confirm the interpreter’s language, whether interpretation covers consent and discharge, who employs them, and whether the service is charged.

  6. 6

    Design aftercare first

Know how long you should remain nearby, which symptoms need urgent review, who answers after hours, and how your doctor at home receives the record.

OFFICIAL CHECK

Registered is the starting line.

01

Search the institution

Use the Medical Korea registered-hospital directory; match the English and Korean name, address and branch.

02

Check the facilitator

If an agency or coordinator recruits or arranges care, verify it separately in the registered-facilitator directory.

03

Understand accreditation

Medical Korea presents accreditation as an additional programme. Do not treat registration, accreditation and online popularity as equivalent.

Check accredited hospitals ↗

Medical Korea states that institutions registered to serve foreign patients are required to carry medical-malpractice liability insurance. Registration does not tell you whether a particular treatment is right for you.

QUESTIONS BY CARE TYPE

Ask about the care you are actually buying.

These prompts help prepare a consultation; they are not medical advice and do not replace an individual assessment.

Modern hospitals, neighbourhood clinics and Korean-medicine providers can offer very different kinds of care. Verify the exact institution and clinician, and disclose every medicine, supplement and herbal preparation you use.

01

Health screening

Ask which tests are clinically appropriate for your age and history, what preparation is required, and who explains abnormal results.

02

Dentistry

Request the material, number of visits, temporary work, laboratory stages, warranty terms and a plan if you leave Korea before completion.

03

Dermatology

Confirm the diagnosis, device or medicine name, expected number of sessions, downtime, contraindications and who handles complications.

04

Plastic & reconstructive surgery

Ask for the surgeon’s name and specialty, anaesthesia plan, implant details, realistic recovery time and emergency contact after discharge.

05

Eye care

Clarify eligibility tests, alternatives, expected visual recovery, activity restrictions and how postoperative checks will continue at home.

06

Korean medicine

Ask what is in any herbal preparation, how it may interact with your medicines, how long it should be used and what records you can take home.

07

Fertility & complex care

Arrange a record review before travel. Ask which decisions require an in-person examination and how records, samples, medication or follow-up cross borders.

FROM FIRST MESSAGE TO FLIGHT HOME

Build recovery into the itinerary.

Before booking

Send usable records

Share diagnoses, allergies, medicines, previous procedures, imaging and relevant laboratory results through the provider’s secure channel. Ask what needs translation.

Before travel

Check entry and insurance

Visa rules depend on nationality and purpose. Confirm them through Medical Korea, Hi Korea or a Korean diplomatic mission. Ask your insurer in writing about planned care and complications.

In Korea

Pause before consent

Make sure the final plan matches the quotation. Do not sign a form you cannot understand. Keep copies of consent, receipts, prescriptions and implant or device labels.

Before departure

Leave with a handover

Request an English discharge summary, test results, operative or procedure note, medication list, fit-to-fly advice, warning signs and a named follow-up contact.

After homecoming

Know who owns follow-up

Send the records to your local clinician. Agree in advance how Korea-based review works across time zones and what requires local emergency care.
