Local mountain discovery notes

These short notes help you choose a place. They are not measured trail itineraries. Compare the setting here, then use the official trail map for distance, difficulty and the permitted entrance.

Achasan · 아차산

A relatively short hill above the Han River with viewpoints and historic fortress remains. It suits a city-based outing when you have limited time.

Begin from an Achasan trail entrance in eastern Seoul and follow the signed viewpoint or fortress trail. Expect steps and crowds at popular times.

Hwangnyeongsan · 황령산

A Busan viewpoint overlooking the city and its surrounding bays. Cherry blossoms line some approaches in spring.

Choose an ascent or use local transport toward the observatory area; do not assume every trail finishes at the same viewing platform. Take a light for the return after sunset.

Goryeosan · 고려산

Goryeosan in Ganghwa is best known for its broad pink azalea slopes near the summit. Ganghwa County lists early to mid-April as the usual viewing period, but flowering changes by year.

During flower viewing, vehicles are restricted from entering the mountain: use a designated temporary car park and walk. Ganghwa County says there is no shuttle bus. Check the current access notice and select a marked approach before travelling; Baengnyeonsa, Cheongnyeonsa and Jeokseoksa access differs outside bloom season.

Ganwolsan · 간월산

Part of the Yeongnam Alps near Ulsan. Ganwoljae pass is known for silver grass, while the summit requires a further mountain walk.

Check whether your route ends at Ganwoljae or continues to Ganwolsan summit. The exposed ridge can be windy and conditions change quickly.

Mindungsan · 민둥산

An open mountain in Jeongseon celebrated for its silver-grass slopes in autumn. The exposed upper trail has little shade.

Choose a marked ascent based on your ability and check train or bus connections back from the selected trailhead. Grass appearance varies with weather.

Cheongoksan (Pyeongchang) · 청옥산 (평창)

The Yukbaekmajigi high plateau is a scenic destination in Pyeongchang, with a short deck-area walk separate from longer mountain routes.

Check the approach road and its seasonal access before setting off. A visit to the plateau is not automatically a summit hike.

Sanbangsan (Jeju) · 산방산 (제주)

A striking volcanic landform near the south-west coast of Jeju. The permitted Sanbanggulsa approach and coastal viewpoints are the visitor experience.

Do not plan a summit hike: summit access is restricted. Check the permitted path, opening conditions and weather before travelling.
