The restored halls seen today should not be described as untouched Silla-era buildings. Stories about the founding are religious tradition, distinct from the documented modern reconstruction.

The open courtyard frames the temple against the mountain landscape. Stay within the public temple area.

Look for the narrow stone passage called Seongmun, then the Daeungjeon prayer hall and permitted courtyard viewpoints. Geumsan tourism lists free admission and seasonal visiting windows of 09:00–18:00 in summer and 09:00–17:00 in winter; telephone ahead for your date. Its guide describes roughly 2.6 km of steep paved approach from the lower village parking area and only around ten spaces near the entrance. Do not mistake the lower parking area for a short, level walk. Check road access and where your driver can turn and collect you. Keep prayer halls quiet, remove shoes where indicated and ask before photographing worshippers.
For a Seoul journey, compare rail to Daejeon with an intercity coach to the Geumsan area, then arrange the Jinsan/temple road transfer separately. Confirm your exact arrival station or terminal and the current local bus stop; there is no promised direct bus to the temple gate. A prebooked taxi or car with an agreed return pickup is the clearer option for the final mountain road. Search “대둔산 태고사 금산” and confirm the temple pin, not Bukhansan Taegosa or Geumsan Forest Culture Town. The Wanju cable-car entrance is a different side of Daedunsan.
Use Daejeon as a rail-friendly overnight base, or compare a real Jinsan-area room if driving. Geumsan’s temple listing names Nakwon Park on Boksu-ro 37-33 as an accommodation lead; check the current listing, room type, heating, check-in and your temple transfer before booking. This guide does not establish a Taegosa templestay programme.
Geumsan’s tourism listing points to Kkotnim-i Garden on Taegosa-ro 360 and Geumsan Trout Restaurant on Hyuyangnim-ro 2168. These are road-transfer meal options, not restaurants inside the temple. Check today’s menu, last order, minimum diners and price first; choose cooked food if raw trout does not suit you. Eat in Jinsan before climbing or after returning, leaving enough time for your train or coach.
Wear grip-soled shoes and bring water, a light warm layer, a charged phone and the saved pickup point. Steps and steep approaches matter more than the short temple visit time. A Nakjodae or summit extension is a separate hike requiring weather, daylight and trail checks; use the Daedunsan hiking guide before committing.
Daejeon or Geumsan arrival → confirmed temple-road transfer → stone gateway and permitted temple court → Jinsan meal → arranged pickup and return. Keep Nakjodae as an optional, separately planned hike; do not combine a quiet temple visit with a rushed traverse to the cable car.
Suggested visit times are our planning allowances, not measured transfer times. Reserve the return connection first; current room prices, menus and local departures need a check for your travel date.
