LIVE CONDITIONS · VERIFY ON THE DAY

The cable car and the trail make separate decisions.

Wind can stop the cable car while trails remain accessible, and winter safety controls can close mountain sections. Check the operator and the park side you are using before departure.

FIRST-TIMER ANSWER

Choose your
level of exposure.

The famous bridge is only one part of Daedunsan. The steep Samseon stair and summit ascent are optional decisions, not obligations.

BEST FULL HIKE

Wanju route 1

Climb from the main parking area through Neusegol and Dongsimbawi to the bridge and Macheondae. Short distance, relentless steepness.

Official ascent about 1 hr 40 minFollow this plan →
QUIETER MOUNTAIN DAY

Surak valley

Approach from the Chungnam side for waterfalls, the Gunji bridge and longer forested routes. This is a different trailhead and transport plan.

Allow a full half-day or moreFollow this plan →

USEFUL ROUTES

Match the route
to your day.

Wanju County publishes one-way distance and ascent time. Add descent, cable-car queues, photographs and a conservative weather margin.

FIRST VISIT · VISUAL HIGHLIGHTS

Cable car.
Bridge first, summit optional.

  1. Save 대둔산케이블카

Check operation, weather suspension, return time and queues. Do not rely on an old timetable screenshot.

  2. Buy the return you actually need

Use the toilet, carry water and photograph the last-down time before boarding.

  3. Follow 구름다리

The path is short but stepped and rocky. Wet leaves and ice change the difficulty quickly.

  4. Cross only if conditions feel right

The bridge and nearby stair are exposed. Turning around here still gives the signature view.

  5. Make a separate summit decision

The steep stair is not required. Continue to 마천대 only with adequate time, footwear and confidence.

  6. Retrace to the upper station

Do not miss the last cable car; allow queue and slow descent time.

FULL ASCENT · SAME SIDE RETURN

Wanju route 1.
Short, steep, memorable.

  1. Pin 대둔산도립공원 주차장

This is the Wanju/cable-car side, not Surak Valley. Save the same return point.

  2. Follow 마천대 / 구름다리

The lower forest quickly becomes steep. Pace for the descent, not the official ascent time.

  3. Check legs and weather

This is the time to shorten the day before committing to exposed facilities above.

  4. One person at a time, no rushing

Follow staff signs and crowd flow. Never stop where you block the crossing.

  5. Turn before the day is spent

The summit is 878 m; take the same route down unless a planned alternative is open.

  6. Expect slower wet stone

Save energy for long stairs and polished rock. Finish before the entrance operating window.

WHEN THE MOUNTAIN CHANGES THE PLAN

Turn around
before trouble.

Steep steel, polished stone, crowds and wind can turn a compact outing into a serious mountain day.

CABLE CAR STOPPED

Use the trail only if prepared.

A weather suspension is not a cue to improvise a full climb in casual shoes.

WET / ICY STEEL

Skip bridge and stair.

Metal facilities and shaded stone can ice before the parking area. Turn back without hesitation.

HEIGHTS / CROWDING

Do not let the queue push you.

The cloud bridge and Samseon stair are optional. Wait, retreat or choose Yongmungol.

INJURY / LOST

Call 119 early.

Give the nearest location marker. Wanju trail management: 063-290-2742; Chungnam side: 041-635-6971.

GET TO THE RIGHT SIDE

Do not mix the sides.

1

대둔산케이블카
