Need a server in a Korean restaurant? First, look for a service bell on your table. Next, press it once and wait. This button calls staff; it may not place your food order. Solve the whole problem

Read the steps, compare your options and check what to do when the first attempt fails. Each guide includes a short video and a Korean sentence to show staff.

Everyday problems: what to do next

Find a toilet you can use
  1. Search your map for 공중화장실, or ask at a station information desk. Check which entrance to use and whether access is before or after the ticket gate.
  2. At a café or shop, ask staff before using its toilet. Check whether a key, door code or customer purchase is needed.
  3. If you need step-free access, ask specifically for an accessible toilet and check the route to it.

If that does not work

If the first toilet is closed, ask staff for the nearest available alternative rather than following an old map listing.

Show or speak to staff

Where is the nearest toilet?

가장 가까운 화장실이 어디에 있나요?

Is there an accessible toilet?

장애인 화장실이 있나요?
Dispose of rubbish correctly
  1. Keep small rubbish with you until you find an appropriate bin. Read the labels rather than assuming every bin accepts everything.
  2. Separate containers as the signs request. Ask staff where drinks, food waste and packaging should go.
  3. At your accommodation, ask the host about bags, collection points and collection times before putting rubbish outside.

If that does not work

If there is no suitable bin, keep the rubbish and ask your hotel or the shop where you purchased the item. Do not leave it beside a full bin.

Show or speak to staff

Where can I throw this away?

이 쓰레기는 어디에 버리면 되나요?

Which recycling bin should I use?

어느 분리수거함에 넣으면 되나요?
Lost phone, wallet or passport
  1. Write down the last place and time you had it. Contact the shop, hotel or transport operator with the item description, route, receipt or booking details.
  2. Check LOST112 and ask station staff about the lost-property office. If theft is suspected, contact the police; call 112 for urgent police help.
  3. For a missing bank card, contact the issuer promptly. For a passport, contact your own embassy or consulate about replacement documents and your travel date.

If that does not work

Ask 1330 for travel interpretation if you cannot explain the situation. Keep any report reference and the contact details of the office helping you.

Show or speak to staff

LOST112 · official lost property
A check-in or room problem
  1. Show the booking confirmation, guest name, dates and exact property address. Check that you are at the correct branch.
  2. For late arrival or self check-in, contact the property through your booking channel and ask for entrance and key instructions.
  3. For a room problem, show staff a photo and ask for a repair or another room. Confirm any change in cost before agreeing.

If that does not work

If the property cannot find the booking, ask your booking provider to check it. Keep messages and receipts before making a second booking.

Show or speak to staff

I have a reservation under this name.

이 이름으로 예약했습니다.

Could you help with this room problem?

이 객실 문제를 확인해 주실 수 있나요?
Store luggage before your next stop
  1. Ask your hotel whether storage is available before check-in or after check-out. Confirm when you must collect the bags.
  2. For a locker, check suitcase size, price, accepted payment, access hours and the maximum storage period before paying.
  3. Save the locker location and receipt or retrieval code. Keep your passport, medicines and items you need for the day with you.

If that does not work

If lockers are full, ask the station information desk about a staffed storage service. Confirm collection hours before leaving your bags.

Show or speak to staff

Can I leave my luggage until this evening?

오늘 저녁까지 짐을 맡길 수 있나요?

What time must I collect it?

몇 시까지 찾아가야 하나요?
Explain allergies and food requirements
  1. Show the specific ingredient in Korean before ordering. Ask about the sauce, broth, toppings and preparation as well as the main dish.
  2. If you have an allergy, ask staff to check with the kitchen rather than relying on a menu photo or the dish name.
  3. Confirm whether your requirement can be met before paying. A request to remove an ingredient does not by itself confirm the meal is suitable.

If that does not work

If staff cannot confirm the ingredients or preparation, choose another dish or place. For an urgent medical emergency, call 119.

Show or speak to staff

Does this contain peanuts?

이 음식에 땅콩이 들어가나요?

I have a food allergy. Please check with the kitchen.

No Korean phone number?

Try this first

  1. For participating restaurants, try CATCHTABLE Global: Google or Apple sign-in is available without a Korean phone number.
  2. Check the branch, date, time, party size, deposit and cancellation terms. Save your confirmation and check app or email updates.
  3. For trains, use KORAIL’s foreign-language booking site. Verify that a ticket was issued; a pending card charge alone is not a ticket.

If you are still stuck

Ask the restaurant or hotel for booking help. For train booking problems, try a staffed station counter; seats are subject to availability. 1330 can help with travel interpretation.

Try this first

  1. Before sitting down, ask whether one person can dine and whether one portion can be ordered.
  2. Check the minimum order and price before ordering. Some menus require two portions; the policy depends on the restaurant and dish.
  3. Look for individual meals such as bibimbap, soup with rice or noodles. If booking, select one guest and confirm the branch. Counter seating does not guarantee a one-person order.

If you are still stuck

If the minimum order does not suit you, choose another restaurant. Ask staff to confirm ingredients and dietary needs before ordering.

  1. Choose a card for your route. Tmoney and EZL are broadly used; check the official comparison before buying a city-specific pass.
  2. Buy at an approved station counter or convenience store, then check the top-up method for that card and machine. Keep a backup payment method.
  3. Check the balance before boarding. Tap at the gate or bus reader, and follow the local instructions when leaving or transferring.
