Know the area
Andong is an inland city in the Gyeongsang region. Hahoe Village lies outside the city centre; the railway station, village and Woryeonggyo are separate destinations. Give rural heritage sites enough travel time instead of treating them as one walkable neighbourhood.
Top sights
Hahoe Village
Explore lanes lined with traditional tiled and thatched homes in this UNESCO-listed village. Families still live here: respect private entrances and follow the visitor route.

Official visitor information ↗
Plan your visit: Allow time to walk through the village's lived-in lanes and riverside setting. Not every house is open to visitors. The village is outside central Andong, so check the return connection before arrival and treat it as a substantial part of the day.
Byeongsanseowon Confucian Academy
Pair Hahoe with a visit to this historic academy and its riverside setting. Arrange the journey between sites in advance and check the return connection.

Official visitor information ↗
Plan your visit: The academy's courtyards and river-facing setting reward a quiet visit. It belongs with a western heritage outing only when you have checked transport between stops. Do not assume a frequent public shuttle connects it directly with Hahoe.
Woryeonggyo Bridge
Choose an unhurried riverside walk around the wooden footbridge and pavilion. An evening visit offers a different atmosphere from the rural heritage stops.
NAVER Map · English ↗KakaoMap · English ↗
Official visitor information ↗
Plan your visit: The bridge is a separate city-side river stop rather than a walk from Hahoe Village. It can suit a late-afternoon or evening visit with dinner in town. Check your last bus or taxi connection if your accommodation is in a rural hanok.
Manhyujeong Pavilion
The pavilion and narrow bridge sit in rural Andong and are associated with television filming. They need a separate transport plan from the city centre. Check visitor hours and access before departure and wait courteously when others are using the narrow crossing.
Andong Old Market
Plan a jjimdak meal in the old-market area before returning to the station or accommodation. The dish is commonly shared, so check serving size and chilli level. Leave time to eat rather than placing a large order shortly before departure.
Travel from Seoul
Seoul → Andong by train
Search Korail for Andong-bound KTX-Eum services from Cheongnyangni in Seoul. Read the departure and arrival stations on your ticket, then plan a local bus or taxi to your next stop.

Continue to Hahoe Village
The village is outside central Andong. Check local bus times and the village arrival point, or arrange a taxi transfer. Confirm the last return before beginning the visit.
Keep station and city stops separate
Book accommodation by its exact address. Do not assume the train station, old market and riverside attractions share the same drop-off point.
Making the local connections
The station, central market, Hahoe and rural filming locations are separate stops. Check direct services from the correct Seoul departure station, then arrange local transfers. A small-group taxi plan can simplify rural combinations, but agree the route, waiting time and price with the provider.

Local food
Andong jjimdak
Chicken and vegetables are braised in a rich, sweet-savoury sauce, often with glass noodles and chilli. Portions may be intended for sharing; ask about heat and serving size.
Salted mackerel
Salt-cured mackerel is a local speciality with a savoury flavour. Ask for the cooking method and watch for bones when sharing with children.
What to expect when ordering
Andong jjimdak combines braised chicken, vegetables and glass noodles in a savoury sauce, with chilli levels varying by restaurant. Salted mackerel is another local option. Clarify serving size and any bones before sharing dishes with children.
Where to stay
A traditional hanok stay
Andong is a natural choice for staying in a traditional house. Compare a village stay with Gurume near the city’s heritage area. Ask about floor bedding or beds, private bathrooms and transport after dark.
Central hotels & guesthouses
Stay near the old market area if restaurants and evening food stops are your priority. Check the station connection and the next morning’s route to Hahoe.

Accommodation map links are area searches, not confirmed bookings. Check the exact address, bedding, private bathroom, step-free access and cancellation terms with the property.
Before you book
A central base keeps meals and transport simpler. A booked village hanok offers a different experience but may require earlier check-in and a planned evening meal. Ask about bedding, private bathrooms, heating and how luggage is carried from the vehicle drop-off.
Suggested itinerary
Day 1 · Village life & a hanok night
Arrive from Seoul and travel to Hahoe Village. Add Byeongsanseowon only if your transport and opening times allow, then settle into your accommodation.
Day 2 · River & local food
Visit Woryeonggyo and the old market area before returning to the railway station. Choose jjimdak or mackerel for lunch according to your appetite.

At living heritage sites, stay on public paths, avoid blocking doorways and ask before photographing residents.

Seasons and what to bring
Spring and autumn suit village and riverside walking. Rural visits can involve long exposed or unheated periods in winter, while summer needs shade and water. Check actual performance and festival dates separately from your sightseeing plan.
Choose a comfortable route
Traditional village lanes, academy courtyards and Manhyujeong's narrow bridge have different access constraints. Ask about the specific route, not only parking availability. A shorter village visit with more rest time may be preferable to several rural stops.
A plan for unsettled weather
Keep an indoor meal or cultural venue available in the city. Rural transfers are harder to change at short notice, so confirm the plan before setting out. Wet stone and narrow crossings may justify skipping a viewpoint.
Culture & events
Mask dance is part of Hahoe’s cultural identity. Check the current performance programme rather than expecting a show on every visit.
