Know the area
Incheon is a metropolitan city west of Seoul. It is separate from Gyeonggi Province, although both belong to the wider capital area.
The old port and Chinatown, modern Songdo, and Ganghwa Island are distinct travel areas. Incheon International Airport is on Yeongjong Island; arriving at the airport does not put you beside Chinatown or Songdo. Plan transfers between these areas rather than treating Incheon as one compact neighbourhood.
Top sights
Songdo Central Park
Walk beside the water with modern towers around you. The park is a useful starting point for Songdo, with nearby cafés and the hanok village. Boat activities depend on the operator and weather.
NAVER Map · English ↗KakaoMap · English ↗
Plan your visit: The park and its surrounding skyline form a different district from the old port. Combine a waterside walk with nearby dining rather than rushing between all of Incheon. Boat activities have separate operating conditions; a park visit does not guarantee that every service is running.
Chinatown & the old port
Explore Chinatown’s gateways and restaurant streets, then continue through the old port area. The neighbourhood is closely connected to the opening of Incheon Port in 1883.
NAVER Map · English ↗KakaoMap · English ↗
Plan your visit: Begin near Incheon Station and explore the heritage streets in a compact walking route. Some streets climb uphill. A jjajangmyeon meal can be part of the visit, but compare restaurant menus rather than choosing only by the longest queue.
Sinpo International Market
Build a food stop around the market’s sweet and spicy dakgangjeong. Browse the stalls at your own pace and check each shop’s opening hours.
NAVER Map · English ↗KakaoMap · English ↗
Plan your visit: Use the market as a food stop during an old-port visit. Browse first and choose portions that leave room for another local dish. Individual shops have their own opening days and payment arrangements, so carry a backup way to pay.
Jeondeungsa Temple, Ganghwa
Set aside a separate trip for this wooded temple within Samnangseong Fortress. Expect walking and changes in level, and keep temple halls quiet during worship.
NAVER Map · English ↗KakaoMap · English ↗
Plan your visit: Ganghwa is a separate excursion from Songdo or the airport. Give the temple approach and grounds adequate time and dress for sloping paths. Plan the return connection before visiting, especially if you are relying on buses rather than a car.
Wolmido waterfront
Pair a waterfront walk with an old-port day if your timing allows. Visitor rides and the sea train are optional services with their own tickets and operating notices. Check the last connection back rather than treating the area as an extension of the airport terminal.
Travel from Seoul
Seoul → Chinatown & the old port
Take an Incheon-bound Seoul Subway Line 1 service from Seoul Station to Incheon Station. Chinatown is close to the station. Check the train destination: Line 1 also has branches towards Suwon and other cities.
Seoul → Songdo Central Park
Take Seoul Subway Line 1 to Bupyeong, then change to Incheon Subway Line 1 for Central Park Station. Seoul Line 1 and Incheon Line 1 are different lines.
Seoul → Yeongjong & airport-area stays
Use an AREX all-stop train from Seoul Station if your accommodation is near Unseo Station. The express airport train does not stop at Unseo. For Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, choose the correct terminal station and check your hotel’s transfer arrangements.
Seoul → Ganghwa
Plan Ganghwa as a separate day rather than a quick transfer from Songdo. Check a bus connection from your Seoul starting point to Ganghwa, followed by a local bus or taxi to Jeondeungsa. Compare the full return journey before setting out.

Making the local connections
Incheon Airport, the old port, Songdo and Ganghwa are distinct areas. Seoul Subway Line 1 suits the old-port approach; Songdo needs a different connection. If this is an airport layover, include immigration, baggage and the full return transfer before deciding whether a city visit is realistic.

Local food
Jjajangmyeon in Chinatown
Wheat noodles are mixed with a dark chunjang sauce, usually containing onion and pork. Expect a savoury, slightly sweet flavour rather than strong chilli heat. Ask about ingredients if you avoid pork or wheat.
Sinpo dakgangjeong
Crisp fried chicken is coated with a sweet, spicy sauce. Some versions are bone-in, so check before ordering a portion to share.
Korean-Chinese dishes
Try dumplings or seafood jjamppong alongside noodles. Jjamppong is typically spicy; ask about shellfish, portion sizes and heat level at the restaurant.
What to expect when ordering
Jjajangmyeon has a savoury black-bean sauce and often includes pork. Jjamppong is usually a spicy noodle soup with seafood. Ask about ingredients before ordering, and compare these full meals with smaller snacks from Sinpo Market.
Where to stay
Songdo & Central Park
Choose this area for modern hotels, waterfront walks and a Songdo-focused visit. Check the walking route from the nearest subway station and whether breakfast is included.
Chinatown & the old port
Look for a base around Incheon Station or the old port if food streets and heritage walks are your priority. Confirm late check-in and luggage storage.
Unseo & Yeongjong
Consider an airport-area hotel for early departures or late arrivals. Verify which airport terminal the shuttle serves and whether it operates at your flight time.
Ganghwa guesthouses
An overnight stay can make a temple or countryside trip less rushed. Confirm bed style, private bathroom, meals and transport; accommodation can be far from a bus stop.
NAVER Map · English ↗KakaoMap · English ↗
Map links show accommodation searches by area. Confirm current availability, prices and booking terms with the property.
Before you book
Use an airport-area hotel for an early flight, Songdo for a modern park-based stay, or the old-port area for heritage streets and food. Check the actual terminal served by any hotel shuttle and whether its operating times fit your flight.
Suggested itinerary
Day 1 · The old port
Arrive at Incheon Station, explore Chinatown, stop for jjajangmyeon and continue towards Sinpo Market. Leave time for cafés and heritage streets rather than rushing between districts.
Day 2 · Songdo
Travel to Central Park Station and spend the day around the park and nearby neighbourhood. Choose a Songdo stay if you want an easy evening walk by the water.
Optional extra day · Ganghwa
Plan a separate visit to Jeondeungsa and the surrounding island. Book or check your transport first; Ganghwa is not a quick walk or subway ride from central Incheon.
This is an editorial itinerary. A day trip can focus on either the old port or Songdo; adjust the route for opening hours and your pace.

Seasons and what to bring
Sea breezes can make waterfront walks cooler than inland Seoul. Keep indoor cafés or heritage exhibitions in the plan during hot, wet or cold weather. Ganghwa outings need a separate forecast and transport check.
Choose a comfortable route
Songdo's park setting and the sloping old-port lanes have different walking demands. Check the route from the station exit and the entrance to any boat or ride. Choose one district if long transfers are tiring.
A plan for unsettled weather
Shorten exposed waterfront walks and focus on a meal or heritage venue in the same area. During a layover, protect the airport-return buffer even if a delayed activity means dropping a planned stop.
