Jeju

Trade the mainland for volcanic coastal scenery, beach time and market meals. Give Jeju room in your itinerary: the island rewards a slower journey.

PLAN A VISIT YOU CAN FOLLOW

Jeju · your practical trip plan

Choose the area, save the correct entrance and keep the return journey in view.

Is this region right for you?

Choose Jeju for an island stay with one area per day. Allow at least three nights for this suggested east-coast plan. A bus trip works best with fewer stops and a well-connected base; it should not copy a rental-car circuit of the whole island.

Arrive at the right gateway

Fly to Jeju International Airport (제주국제공항). Decide Jeju City, Seongsan or Seogwipo as your base before choosing an airport bus. Save the hotel’s full Korean address; the east-coast sightseeing corridor and an airport express service are not the same bus journey.

Reach the entrance and get back

  1. The current Jeju bus list describes express 101 as Airport → Jocheon → Gimnyeong → Seongsan → Namwon; older tourism articles describe a longer route. Choose the exact hotel-area stop in the live map before boarding; express stops are not every beach entrance. Read the airport stop sign for the route and direction rather than relying on an old PDF departure time.
  2. For Seongsan Ilchulbong, the current 201 schedule lists 성산일출봉입구. Match the direction from your base, alight there and follow the walk to the ticket entrance; choose the free lower path or the paid summit climb. Do not assume the airport express or every 201 variant stops at your attraction’s door.
  3. Before adding a second stop, check both the onward and return journey to your base. Ferries, exposed coastal paths and Hallasan are separate plans with their own weather or access controls. For departure day, include the airline’s check-in requirement, road travel and a traffic margin.

Save these Korean names. Use the live route result to match the boarding stop, direction and final entrance; a general map pin is not a verified entrance.

Choose a realistic day plan

Arrival / departure · stay near your base

Make airport transfer, check-in and a nearby meal the main arrival plan. On departure day choose a short local walk only after securing the airport connection.

Full sightseeing day · east cluster, 5–7 hours

Choose Seongsan as the main stop, lunch nearby, then one short neighbouring walk if the return works. Budget transfer time separately; replace a second long bus ride with more time at the main stop. Hallasan needs its own day.

Time windows are editorial estimates at a relaxed pace, excluding the intercity journey. Add real waiting times and your own walking pace.

Time, tickets and spending

Visit Jeju lists Seongsan Ilchulbong adult summit admission as KRW 5,000; the lower scenic path is free. The summit involves steps and climbing. Confirm the day’s access notice. Ferries, rental cars and other attractions are separate purchases.

Illustrative local-day allowance: KRW 35,000–70,000

Per adult, for simple meals, a drink, local bus / metro travel and modest selected admissions. This is our planning allowance, not a surveyed average or a quoted package price. Hotels, flights / intercity tickets, taxis, rental cars, ferries and paid experiences are excluded.

For a real total, add: actual return tickets + accommodation quote + any taxi / special activity + this local allowance. Confirm menus and operator fares before paying.

Convert your planning budget

Choose your base and meal

For a bus-based east-coast trip, compare a Jeju City transport base with a Seongsan stay near the main stop. Seogwipo works for southern days but adds a longer journey to some northern sights. Try a single-person soup / noodle meal; black-pork barbecue may require a minimum order. Confirm seafood ingredients and alcohol in sauces if relevant.

When the plan changes

  • Strong wind, ferry cancellation or poor visibility: stay in your base area and choose an open indoor venue after checking its ticket and hours. Do not substitute an exposed hike for a cancelled sea activity.
  • A long bus delay: keep only the main stop. Compare a taxi for a short final connection; do not turn an unplanned cross-island taxi ride into the default. Reserve departure-day time for reaching the airport.

Jeju City and the airport are on the north side, Seongsan Ilchulbong is in the east, and Seogwipo is in the south. Group nearby places into each day instead of crossing the island repeatedly.

Plan your visit: The summit approach includes a climb, so separate the viewpoint visit from a simple coastal stroll. Check the opening calendar and entry cutoff for your date. An early-morning plan requires transport arranged in advance; public buses may not fit the sunrise you hope to see.

Hamdeok Beach

Spend time on the north-coast shoreline. Plan beach activities around weather, seasonal facilities and posted water-safety guidance.

Plan your visit: Use the beach and nearby village as a north-coast stop, with time for a meal or café. A walk beside the water is different from swimming: follow current beach notices and conditions. Do not assume the whole island's coast can be covered in one day.

Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market

Browse the market during a south-coast day. Check individual stall hours and menus before arranging your meal around a particular vendor.

Making the local connections

Fly from Seoul's Gimpo Airport to Jeju, then group island stops by coast. Jeju City, Seongsan and Seogwipo are separate travel areas. Without a car, build the itinerary around actual bus connections and consider fewer stops. Check your licence eligibility and rental terms directly if hiring a car.

Suggested itinerary

An editorial route suggestion. Adjust it for arrival time, opening hours, weather and your walking pace.

Day 1 · North coast

Fly from Gimpo to Jeju, settle into your accommodation and choose a north-coast stop such as Hamdeok if arrival time allows.

Day 2 · Eastern Jeju

Give Seongsan Ilchulbong and the eastern coast their own day. Plan meals and local transport before setting out.

Day 3 · South or slow down

Visit Seogwipo and its market if your flight timing allows, or stay closer to your base. Reserve enough time to return to Jeju Airport.

Seasons and what to bring

Jeju's wind and rain can change a day's plans even when the temperature feels mild. Mountain conditions differ from the coast. Keep a flexible day for the island's main outdoor activity and check forecasts and service notices before taking a ferry or hiking.

Choose a comfortable route

A coastal café-and-market day and a Hallasan climb have very different requirements. Check paths, stairs and transport access for each stop. Ask the property about the room entrance and bathroom layout rather than relying only on a general accessibility label.

Accessible transport and senior fares

A plan for unsettled weather

Move exposed viewpoints to another day and choose an indoor stop near your base. Do not drive across the island only to find a weather-dependent attraction closed. Protect a final-day buffer before your flight.
