Winter in Korea

Snow-covered forests. Warm tables. A winter worth travelling for.

Choose the winter experience first: snow and skiing, a rail-and-island escape, Jeju’s southern coast, or winter birds and Yeosu. The order below is our planning priority, not a popularity ranking.

Planning edition: 1 October 2026. Source review covers the destinations and route structure; seasonal dates, live snow, flowers, fares and transfers must be checked for your travel day. Historical photographs are not current conditions.

Plan 2 days / 1 night. A resort gondola reaches Seolcheonbong; Hyangjeokbong requires a further walk. Check gondola reservation and weather operations before paying for the transfer. Stay near the resort for an early start; carry winter footwear and traction appropriate to the route. If the gondola closes, keep a resort or local-food day.

Taebaeksan: snow festival or winter hike

Choose the festival grounds or an equipped mountain hike; they are not the same activity. Use Taebaek as the gateway and secure the final transfer. Allow a separate day for a hike and check the park’s current access controls. The 2027 snow-festival dates and prices have not been verified here. Do not plan a summit hike before a tightly timed return train.

Hallasan: a dedicated winter mountain day

Keep this separate from Jeju’s camellia and coastal itinerary. Summit and non-summit entrances have different routes and rules. Check the park’s reservation system, weather closures and route-specific turnaround limits. Arrange trailhead pickup and suitable equipment before starting; if access closes, use the Seogwipo base itinerary instead.

Prefer a city winter? Busan

Use a 3-day / 2-night Busan trip: Haeundae and Dongbaekseom on one day, Nampo-dong and markets on another, with an indoor museum or café alternative for strong coastal wind. Keep the two areas separate and use the existing Busan transport and food guide.
