Myeongseongsan

Plan a mountain visit around Pocheon, with the named starting point, route reference, travel from Seoul and seasonal guidance below.

Start with one named entrance, one verified route sequence and a same-side return plan. This guide separates the mountain coordinate from the place where you actually begin walking.

AUTUMN SILVER GRASS · POCHEON

The grass field is a hike, not the summit

From the Sanjeong Lake side, Pocheon lists Sangdong car park → Biseon Falls → Deungnyong Falls → silver grass field → pavilion → summit as one route. You can turn around at the grass field instead of continuing to the summit, but even that approach climbs a mountain trail. Check the current trail notice before choosing a route; do not treat the lakeside walk and the grass field as the same outing.

OFFICIAL SOURCE · CHECK AGAIN ON THE DAY

The start is Sanjeong Lake visitor area.

The Korea Forest Service page is the source for the mountain record. Opening hours, controlled-entry rules, fire closures and weather restrictions can change after this guide is published.

FIRST-TIMER ANSWER

Do these three things
in this order.

A summit name is not a useful taxi destination. Save the named entrance, read the official sequence, and decide your turn-around rule before leaving.

2 · WALK

Follow the named sequence

Sanjeong Lake area → Jainsa → ridge → Deungnyong Falls area

Open trail onlyRead the route source →
3 · RETURN

Protect the way home

Confirm the last connection before starting. Turn back early enough to descend in daylight.

MOUNTAIN AREA ≠ TRAILHEAD

Save the correct
place before you go.

The map pin marks the official mountain coordinate for orientation. It is not a trail GPS track. Use the entrance buttons for arrival and follow signs on site.

ROUTE PLANNING

Read the route
before the ridge.

These are planning checkpoints, not a plotted hiking trail. Check the current route board at the entrance before walking.

Your first solo-day rule

Reduce uncertainty before adding distance.

  1. 1Save the exact entranceKeep both map links available offline.
  2. 2Photograph the trail mapRecord closures, difficulty and the return route.
  3. 3Set a turn-around timeBase it on daylight and the last connection—not ambition.
  4. 4Return to the named sideDo not improvise a different descent without confirmed transport.

WHEN THE PLAN CHANGES

Turn around
before trouble.

These rules apply even when the summit looks close.

TRAIL CLOSED

Do not detour

Use only a currently authorised route. A listing in the 100-mountain collection does not grant access.

LAST BUS UNCLEAR

Shorten the walk

Confirm a taxi fallback or turn around while the same-side return remains simple.

WEATHER SHIFTS

Leave the ridge

Low cloud, lightning, heavy rain, ice and high wind are reasons to descend early.

LOST OR INJURED

Call 119

Give the nearest Korean sign, emergency marker number and phone coordinates.

SEOUL → GATEWAY → ENTRANCE

Travel from Seoul
to the right side.

Use the saved final-entrance link. Long-distance and local timetables change, so the route below is a planning pattern rather than a guaranteed connection.

1

Reach Pocheon

Choose a current train or intercity-bus connection from Seoul and keep a later backup.

2

Transfer locally

Start in Seoul and plan your main journey toward Pocheon. Then check local transport to Sanjeong Lake visitor area. Use the entrance map below, rather than the summit coordinates, for your arrival. Confirm the return connection before starting your walk.

FOUR DIFFERENT CONDITIONS

Choose the season,
then the route.

Photographs appear only in seasons where a verified image exists; the safety guidance applies whether or not there is a photograph.

SPRINGThaw, flowers, changeable weather

High trails can retain ice after lower slopes warm up. Check thawing conditions and any seasonal fire-prevention closures. Flowering dates vary by elevation and year.

Photos coming soon.
SUMMERHeat, humidity, heavy rain

Plan for heat, humidity and sudden heavy rain. Avoid exposed ridges during thunderstorms and do not enter flooded valley crossings. Carry enough drinking water.

Photos coming soon.
AUTUMNColour, crowds, shorter daylight

Daylight becomes shorter and ridge temperatures can fall quickly. Check current foliage and access information, bring a warm layer and plan your descent early.

Photos coming soon.
WINTERSnow, ice, specialist equipment

Snow and ice can make a familiar route much harder. Choose an open route suited to your winter experience and equipment. Check the park’s weather restrictions before travelling.
