Hotel, hanok & motel guide

For a rail trip, compare hotels near Gwangju Songjeong or in Gwangju and check late check-in plus your return connection. For a car-based overnight trip, Kumho Hwasun Spa Resort is a real option at 14-21 Oknigil, Baega-myeon. It is outside the festival area and requires a separate drive; check current room details and facilities with the operator.

Open location map

Optional Chunyang extension: confirm the connection first.

Numbered stops show the journey order. The diagram is not to scale and does not draw an actual railway or footpath. Use the live maps below for navigation; gardens, toilets and pickup locations must be checked against the organiser’s on-site 2026 layout.

Sights & a workable visit

Start at Dogok for the announced photo, chrysanthemum, children’s and butterfly gardens around the lawn square. Pick one public dolmen group, read its interpretation and return to the same entrance. Add crafts only after checking session times and extra fees.

Short visit · allow 90–120 minutes

Dogok entrance → gardens → a nearby open dolmen group → rest/food → Dogok pickup. This is a planning sequence, not a surveyed walking track. Ask staff which signed paths are open and where the accessible toilets are.

Longer visit · allow 3–4 hours

After the gardens, choose a guided heritage visit or the Chunyang-side protection pavilion. Confirm the connecting path or festival circulation bus before leaving Dogok, and agree a Chunyang pickup if finishing there. These entrances are not interchangeable taxi stops.

Visit lengths are editorial allowances, excluding Seoul travel, queues and meal service. The heritage area includes low hills; an entirely flat or step-free route is not guaranteed.

Why these stones matter

Hwasun belongs to the Gochang, Hwasun and Ganghwa Dolmen Sites, inscribed by UNESCO in 2000. The stone burial monuments and nearby quarry traces help explain how prehistoric communities worked with enormous stones. Look from the marked paths; do not climb the monuments.

From Seoul · step by step

  1. 1 · Seoul / Yongsan → Gwangju Songjeong

Search KORAIL for Gwangju Songjeong on your travel date and book both directions. Many Honam KTX services leave from Yongsan; board at the departure station printed on your ticket. Gwangju Station is a different station. Check the exact train time, fare and baggage arrangements in the booking system.

  2. 2 · Station → your agreed entrance

From Gwangju Songjeong arrange a taxi, rental car or reserved driver to Dogok. Save the address below and agree the return pickup time and total quote before departing. The KTX does not reach the festival gate. For a local-bus journey, search the exact entrance in Naver Map and the Hwasun bus system for that date; confirm transfers and the final return service.

  3. 3 · Entry, parking & return

Show your driver the chosen entrance and use signed festival parking. The county has announced circulation buses, but their 2026 stops, timetable and last service are not verified here. Do not assume a direct station shuttle. Ask the organiser at +82-61-379-3575 before relying on it. Leave enough margin to reach the station before your reserved return train.

Before paying: exact map location, bedding, private bathroom, parking, cancellation terms and a reachable check-in contact. For hanok or motels use the existing stay guide; no unverified property is labelled “next to the festival”.

Food · festival lunch or a tofu stop

The organiser lists local-food stalls, single-dish vendors and food trucks. Check displayed prices, ingredients and voucher acceptance before ordering. For a separate Dogok meal, Saekdong Dubu is listed by the county for tofu and tofu bossam at 438 Jigang-ro, Dogok-myeon. Bossam contains pork; ask about fish stock and other ingredients for dietary needs. Confirm opening and waiting times at +82-61-375-5066.

Bring these for the walk

Walking shoes, water, sun protection, a light windproof layer, rain cover and a charged phone/power bank. Save both your entrance and pickup address offline. Stay on signed paths and keep clear of protected stones and flower beds. Ask about slopes, accessible toilets and the shorter route if travelling with limited mobility.

Sources & last checked
