Seonunsa · follow the colour along Dosolcheon

고창 선운사·선운산

Choose a waterside temple stroll, a longer valley walk to Dosolam, or a proper ridge hike. The maple-lined approach and mountain backdrop reward a slower overnight trip from Seoul.

Official one-way walking times are not round-trip visits. Suggested visit allowances include pauses; add transport, descent and weather margins. Archive photographs are not a live foliage forecast.

2026 autumn trail designation · 1 November–15 December: county attachment marks courses 1 and 2 open, courses 3 and 4 closed for fire prevention. This is not a blanket temple closure. Check later amendments, weather and signs before entering.

A traditional account dates Seonunsa’s founding to monk Geomdan in 577. The temple’s Daeungjeon is a designated Treasure. Walk beside Dosolcheon before deciding whether to continue uphill; the temple approach and exposed ridge require different footwear, fitness and time.

02 · SEOUL → SEONUNSA

From Seoul · transport & parking

01

Express bus + local bus

  1. Seoul Central City (Honam)
  2. Gochang terminal
  3. Seonunsa bus
  4. park approach

Allow roughly 4–5 h one way including transfer as an editorial planning range. The local leg is about 40 min in KTO guidance. Check the county’s current local timetable and book the onward Seoul return first; the last local bus may miss your intercity connection.

02

Rail + prearranged road transfer

  1. Yongsan
  2. Jeongeup
  3. reserved taxi or confirmed rental car
  4. Seonunsan

There is no train into the temple park. Match a date-specific train to a confirmed pickup and arrange the return to Jeongeup. Ask for the full road-transfer quote; do not assume a direct temple bus or automatic station car delivery.

03

Drive · park at the entrance

  1. West Coast Expressway
  2. Seonunsan IC
  3. Route 22
  4. park parking
  5. walk

Use live navigation for the exact approach and tolls. Rough Seoul driving allowance 3.5–4.5+ h one way is an editorial estimate; autumn congestion can add substantially. Arrive early, park in the signed area and walk into the park.

Parking & final approach

Navigate to Seonunsan Provincial Park parking, 선운사로 158-6, rather than trying to drive into the courtyard. The official park page confirms parking; the current parking tariff was not verified. Free park admission does not establish free parking. Keep time for the walk back to your car.
