Jonggak: Bosingak & evening lanes

Begin at Bosingak, then choose a short walk through Jongno’s food lanes or along Cheonggyecheon. Jonggak is close to Insadong but is a different station and meeting point from Jongno 3-ga.

What to see

How to get there

Take Line 1 to Jonggak and follow signs for Bosingak. Set the pavilion as your meeting point; do not select Jongno 3-ga simply because the names look similar.

A practical walking order

Suggested route and time allowance; check live transport and venue notices for your visit.

  1. 1

    Start outside Bosingak

View the pavilion from the public space and check any posted access or ceremony information.

  2. 2

    Explore the restaurant streets

Walk into the Jonggak food lanes, checking menus and opening times rather than relying on a particular restaurant being open.

  3. 3

    Choose stream or crafts

Head south for Cheonggyecheon or north for Insadong. Each is a better short extension than rushing both.

  4. 4

    Return by a clear landmark

Save Jonggak Station or the station at your chosen finish before your evening walk.

Food & a break

Korean barbecue, noodle shops and casual dining are found around the commercial lanes. Opening times and queues vary, especially at lunchtime and after work.

Before you go

The New Year bell ceremony is a special event, not a daily attraction. Stream access may close during heavy rain; stay on the street if barriers are in place.
