A practical walking order

Suggested route and time allowance; check live transport and venue notices for your visit.

  1. 1

    Choose the Hongdae side

Check the Red Road pin before leaving the station so you do not emerge on the Yeonnam side by mistake.

  2. 2

    Walk towards the university

Follow the active shopping streets and take short side-lane detours for design shops and cafés.

  3. 3

    Pause for music or food

Street performances depend on the day. For a live venue, check the actual programme, age requirements and tickets.

  4. 4

    Choose one extension

Continue to Sangsu for more cafés or return through Hongdae. Add Yeonnam only if you have time for another area.

Food & a break

Look around side streets for Korean meals, bakeries and cafés. Check the menu before joining a queue and leave residential doorways clear.

Before you go

Weekend evenings can be busy. Keep valuables secure, respect performers’ space and plan your last train before staying late.
