Hyuhyuam · Seaside Temple

A quiet coastal temple with sea-facing statues and unusual rock formations. Make it a relaxed southern Yangyang stop, linked with Ingu or Namae rather than a rushed Seoraksan detour.

Destination

Yangyang’s official guide lists free admission and year-round access. Visit in daylight to see the sea and follow temple etiquette. The rock platforms and stairs are uneven; do not approach wave-washed edges or climb barriers for photographs. Fish sightings depend on conditions and are not guaranteed. Keep voices low near prayer areas.

Transport

From Seoul, compare coaches to Yangyang or Jumunjin, then confirm the local connection to Hyuhyuam in Hyeonnam-myeon. The temple is south of Yangyang town, not beside its terminal. Check the exact stop and last return using a Korean map or the local tourism office. A taxi with agreed return pickup is useful if the bus connection is poor.

Stay

Compare pensions and small hotels around Ingu or Jukdo for a southern-coast overnight. The municipal accommodation directory is linked below. Verify the distance to the temple, stairs, late check-in and parking. For a quiet night ask about nearby music or beach events; the district label alone does not describe the noise at an individual property.

Local food

Choose Namae harbour seafood eateries for a cooked-fish or sashimi meal, or Ingu beach cafés and restaurants for a lighter stop. Ask the full seafood price, preparation charges and minimum portions before ordering. These are meal areas, not a claim that every shop is open. Save the restaurant’s exact pin before leaving the temple.

A workable visit plan

Confirmed local arrival → Hyuhyuam temple and safe coastal viewpoint → one meal in Namae or Ingu → return pickup. If staying overnight, add Jukdo’s coastal walk as a separate stop. High waves or wind are a reason to skip the shore platforms, not to press on for a photograph.

Suggested visit times are our planning allowances, not measured transfer times. Reserve the return connection first; current room prices, menus and local departures need a check for your travel date.
