Pyeongchang & Gangneung

Choose one snow day, one temple or resort day and a coastal finish. This route suits first-time visitors who want winter scenery without committing to a summit hike.

Planning edition: 1 October 2026. Source review covers the destinations and route structure; seasonal dates, live snow, flowers, fares and transfers must be checked for your travel day. Historical photographs are not current conditions.

Arrival & final connections

Use Jinbu (Odaesan) as the rail gateway for the inland part, and Gangneung Station for the coastal part. They are different stations. Before buying rail tickets, secure the station-to-hotel and return transfers: resort shuttles are seasonal, and a train ticket does not include them. Compare a pre-booked taxi or an organised snow-day transfer if the bus connections do not fit.

Seoul → Jinbu for the resort / Gangneung for the coast → separate hotel transfer

Rail / flight gateway

Book Jinbu for the inland stay and Gangneung for the coast. They are separate stops; check luggage and checkout before moving between bases.

Coach & local bus

Compare the resort’s official Seoul shuttle information with rail. A seasonal shuttle needs its own operating date, pickup point and reservation.

Final transfer & return

Ask your resort to confirm the Jinbu pickup; arrange Gangneung Station to your coastal hotel separately. Do not assume one shuttle covers both.

Rental pickup & return

Reserve a named depot near your arrival gateway. Confirm its street address, opening hours, licence requirements, winter equipment and the exact return depot with the operator before paying. Allow time for refuelling, vehicle inspection and any depot shuttle before your return train or flight. One-way returns need explicit agreement.

Route and venue source review: 23 October 2026. These are planning connections, not a live timetable or a guaranteed transfer. Confirm seasonal services and the final return before booking.

Day-by-day route

  1. Day 1 — Arrive at Jinbu, leave luggage at your accommodation, then visit Woljeongsa and the short fir-forest approach if access and footing allow. Keep the return pickup agreed before starting the walk. Do not add a full Odaesan hike to this arrival day.
  2. Day 2 — Choose Yongpyong: a beginner lesson with equipment, or a sightseeing cable-car visit. These are different products. Ask whether clothing, helmet, lift access and an English lesson are included. Spend the night inland, or transfer to Gangneung after the main activity only when the connection is secured.
  3. Day 3 — Gangneung: choose one coastal area, a café stop and a Chodang tofu meal before your train home. Keep luggage near the station or your hotel. A short coast visit is more realistic than combining every beach and market.

Numbered stops & map

The map locates the main visit area; it is not a surveyed entrance or a navigable hiking track. Numbers follow the planning sequence; confirm the exact boarding point and entrance in your map app.

Where to stay & eat

Stay around Jinbu or your chosen resort for the snow day; move to Gangneung for the coast. Compare total transfer costs before choosing a remote hotel. Try tofu dishes in Gangneung and ask about broth ingredients if vegetarian.

Choose your overnight base

Two accommodation options to compare. Check the actual room, heating, luggage storage, arrival transfer, cancellation and total price for your dates. Listings are editorial suggestions, not paid recommendations.

A local table & a meal fallback

Restaurants, hotel dining and market areas are identified individually. Check the branch, current menu, minimum order, closing day and last order. Ask about ingredients and allergens; a vegetable dish does not establish a vegetarian kitchen.

Planning allowance

KRW 100,000–180,000 per adult / day: an editorial planning allowance for a shared twin room, meals and ordinary local travel. This is not a surveyed average or a package price.

Exclude flights, intercity rail, attraction tickets, festival admission, ski passes, lessons, clothing, equipment and dedicated taxis or private transfers. A solo room, weekend stay or extensive taxi use can exceed the range. Obtain separate quotes for these extras before booking.

Weather & backup plan

No natural snow? Keep the temple, food and coast plan; confirm which resort activities actually operate. Strong wind may stop the sightseeing cable car. Replace it with a shorter indoor café or museum visit and avoid paying for a non-refundable transfer until the operating conditions are clear.

Before paying, confirm your dates, cancellation conditions, foreign-card payment, the last return service and any included transfer or equipment. If a 2027 festival or winter service is not confirmed, book the base route without it.
