Our suggested trade-offs for independent travellers. Count arrival and departure days before copying a seven-day itinerary.
Choose this for: a first trip balancing a major city, historic sights and the coast. Use three accommodation bases and group sightseeing around each base.
The compromise: changing cities uses part of a sightseeing day. In Busan, choose either an eastern beach day or a western markets day instead of repeatedly crossing the city.
Before paying: check the exact rail stations, the transfer from each station to your hotel, and the return journey to your departure airport.
Read the seven-day routeChoose this for: regional food, urban culture, gardens and a coastal finish. This is a more demanding trip to organise because there are more city changes.
The compromise: a one-night stop means another checkout and luggage transfer the next morning. For a slower trip, remove a city rather than trying to shorten every visit.
Before paying: compare the actual intercity connections, confirm the final local journey to each attraction, and decide where your luggage stays on transfer days.
Read the Jeolla and coast routeChoose this for: an island stay with fewer mainland hotel changes. Choose the part of Jeju you want to explore before choosing accommodation.
The compromise: distant island stops can consume the day in transfers. Pick one area per day and keep an indoor or short-walk alternative for poor weather.
Before paying: match airport transfers, flight baggage, local transport and any rental return. Treat a mountain hike as a separate day with its own access and weather checks.
Read the Jeju routeStart with the journey you cannot miss: your train, flight or last useful bus. Add the transfer from the final sight to the station, time to collect luggage, and the operator’s check-in or boarding requirement. The time left is your sightseeing window. If the plan only works when every connection is perfect, remove a stop.
On arrival day, make hotel check-in and one nearby meal the core plan. Keep a timed attraction optional until you know your arrival and baggage arrangements. On a city-change day, put the most important visit after you have reached the new base rather than on both sides of the journey.
Compare the whole journey, not just the advertised intercity travel time. For public transport, add the hotel-to-station journey, transfers and the last local connection. For a rental car, add collection, parking, breaks, fuel and return procedures. Ask whether a different return branch is allowed and what it costs before building a one-way route around it.
A room beside a station can simplify a departure, but may be inconvenient for the evenings you want. Compare the address with your planned dinner area and your last return option. Keep the hotel’s Korean address saved separately from the booking page so you can show it if your connection fails.
Pair an outdoor day with an alternative in the same area. Swapping a coastal walk for a nearby indoor visit is easier than travelling to another city because of rain. Do not treat a cable car, boat or exposed hike as guaranteed. Recheck the actual operator’s notice before leaving.
Continue with transport instructions, accommodation planning, or practical help if a booking or payment fails. These are planning recommendations; live availability, fares and operating conditions are confirmed by each provider.
