Walking courses

Easy option: allow 30–60 minutes for a staff-confirmed open path from the visitor area toward Sambong Spring and back, adding valley pauses where allowed. This is an editorial visit plan; ask for the current on-site map and access conditions. Mountain option: the official Gachilbong trail description gives a 2 km ascent and 3 km return, about 5 km / 3 hours. It is a mountain hike, not the easy stroll. Check closure, weather and your equipment before starting.

Maps & directions

Getting here & the last transfer

Car: use live navigation via Nae-myeon and National Route 56. This is the eastern mountain area of Hongcheon, well away from Hongcheon town and Vivaldi Park. Allow extra time for autumn traffic. Public transport: book a coach from Dong Seoul to Hongcheon, then check a connection to Nae-myeon / Changchon and a local bus toward Cheongdo. Service is sparse; confirm the stop, last return and the transfer to each entrance. Pre-arrange a taxi if connections do not fit. Do not assume a direct Seoul bus or a train to the forest.

Nearby places & a two-day plan

Pair the ginkgo forest with Sambong Spring and a forest stroll. Add Saldun Village for a riverside stop or Guryongnyeong Pass for a mountain drive when road conditions allow. Woljeongsa and Seonjae-gil are a separate Odaesan day trip, not a short walk from this forest. Suggested two-day plan: day 1 ginkgo stroll, Nae-myeon lunch, Sambong walk and overnight; day 2 a short morning walk, Saldun Village and return. Check driving times rather than fitting every place into one day.

Where to stay & book

For a forest night, book Sambong rooms or camping through the official Foresttrip (숲나들e) page. Choose Sambong, dates, facility and party size; check availability, capacity, price and cancellation terms, then complete payment before the deadline. Registration and identity checks may be required; overseas visitors should confirm access with the operator before committing. The published first-come release is Wednesday 09:00 Korea time; weekend and peak-season allocation rules can differ. Nearby pensions in Nae-myeon, Gwangwon-ri or Saldun can be alternatives; check the exact address and driving distance. Hongcheon-wide hotel results include distant properties.

Room check-in 15:00–22:00; camping (except cabins) 14:00–22:00; checkout 11:00. Follow your reservation notice. Booking links open the provider; this site does not confirm availability or take payment.
