One day · one coastal cluster, 4–6 hours
Anmok beach walk → café → lunch, or Gyeongpo walk → Chodang tofu meal. Keep the return journey visible before settling into a café. Station transfers are extra.
K-TRAVEL / DESTINATION GUIDE
Trade Seoul’s skyline for east-coast beaches, lakeside heritage and a coffee by the sea. Gangneung pairs Gyeongpo’s coast with Ojukheon’s history and the soft tofu of Chodang. Plan an overnight stay to explore without rushing between neighbourhoods.

PLAN A VISIT YOU CAN FOLLOW
Choose the area, save the correct entrance and keep the return journey in view.
Choose Gangneung for coastal cafés and a quieter seaside stay. With one day, choose Anmok or the Gyeongpo / Chodang cluster. Stay one night to add the other cluster without rushing between inland rail arrival and the coast.
Book a train to Gangneung Station (강릉역), checking whether it departs Seoul or Cheongnyangni on your ticket. The beaches are not outside the station. Before choosing a hotel, compare its door-to-station transfer and its evening food options.
Save these Korean names. Use the live route result to match the boarding stop, direction and final entrance; a general map pin is not a verified entrance.
Anmok beach walk → café → lunch, or Gyeongpo walk → Chodang tofu meal. Keep the return journey visible before settling into a café. Station transfers are extra.
Day 1: your chosen beach cluster and nearby overnight base. Day 2: Ojukheon, 1–2 hours as our planning allowance, then lunch and the station. Avoid adding distant Jumunjin before an early train.
Time windows are editorial estimates at a relaxed pace, excluding the intercity journey. Add real waiting times and your own walking pace.
Open the mapped day-by-day itineraryKTO lists Ojukheon adult admission KRW 3,000 and hours 09:00–18:00, with ticketing ending one hour earlier. Café purchases and indoor attractions have their own prices; do not treat them as included in a coastal walk.
Per adult, for simple meals, a drink, local bus / metro travel and modest selected admissions. This is our planning allowance, not a surveyed average or a quoted package price. Hotels, flights / intercity tickets, taxis, rental cars, ferries and paid experiences are excluded.
For a real total, add: actual return tickets + accommodation quote + any taxi / special activity + this local allowance. Confirm menus and operator fares before paying.
Convert your planning budgetA coastal stay suits the evening view; a station / town stay simplifies an early train. Add the return ride before comparing room prices. Chodang soft tofu is a regional option, but ask about seafood broth and spicy versus mild versions. Check the minimum order and café closing time.

Gangneung is a coastal city in Gangwon, east of Seoul. Gyeongpo Beach and its lake form one sightseeing area; Anmok’s coffee street and Ojukheon are separate stops. Gangneung Station is inland, so include a local bus or taxi after your train.
Explore the market for a casual food stop, then walk along neighbouring Wolhwa Street, built on a former railway corridor. Small shops make this an easy downtown pairing. Night-market dates vary; check the city's current notice rather than assuming it operates every evening.

Walk along the sand and pine-lined shore, then choose a lakeside route. Gyeongpodae Pavilion adds a traditional landmark to the visit. Swimming access is seasonal; follow the beach’s notices.

Plan your visit: The beach and the lake offer two different walks. Choose one main route and add the other only if time and energy allow. Gyeongpodae Pavilion provides historical context nearby; take local transfers into account when connecting it with the seafront.
Choose a café beside Anmok Beach and take time over the sea view. Individual cafés have their own opening hours. This is a separate local journey from the railway station.

Plan your visit: Use Anmok for a beach walk and a coffee stop rather than trying to visit every café. Compare the view, seating and menu that suit you. Leave time to get back to Gangneung Station, especially if you have reserved a return train.
Visit the historic house associated with scholar Yi I and explore the museum grounds. Allow time for the exhibitions as well as the courtyard.

Plan your visit: The historic house and museum grounds add a cultural stop to a coast-focused trip. Look for the story of the scholar Yi I and his family rather than treating the site only as a garden. Check exhibition and entry information before arrival.
Jumunjin lies north of central Gangneung and has its own coastal atmosphere and filming-location interest. Arrange the outward and return connection rather than adding it casually to a short Anmok visit. Follow barriers around harbour structures and rough-water areas.
Dutasan is in the Donghae area, outside Gangneung. It is shown as inspiration for a separate regional hiking day, not as a downtown attraction. Choose a named entrance, review the trail and transport, and allow enough daylight for the return.
Search Korail for Gangneung-bound KTX services from Seoul Station or Cheongnyangni. Match the departure station to your actual ticket, then continue from Gangneung Station by local bus or taxi.

Compare Seoul Express Bus Terminal and Dong Seoul departures to Gangneung. Your arrival terminal is a separate location from the train station and beaches.
Group Gyeongpo and Chodang together, with Anmok or Ojukheon as a separate stop. Save your accommodation address and check the last local bus before an evening at the beach.
The KTX station is inland from the main beaches. Group Ojukheon, Gyeongpo and Chodang logically, and leave Anmok or Jumunjin its own transfer allowance. Check whether your Seoul-area train departs from Seoul Station or Cheongnyangni; the ticket determines the departure point.

Soft tofu made from soybeans has a mild, nutty taste and delicate texture. Plain tofu and spicy soups are different dishes; ask about the broth and accompaniments if you avoid seafood or meat.
Anmok’s cafés make an easy break between sightseeing stops. Choose a roast and drink you enjoy, and check whether milk alternatives are available.
Chodang sundubu is associated with soft tofu and can be a gentler meal between coastal walks. Preparation varies: some dishes include spicy seasoning or seafood stock. Coffee and sweets are useful pauses, but leave space for a proper local meal.
Look for a beach-area hotel or guesthouse if morning sea walks matter most. Compare the actual beach access, room view and local bus stop before booking.
Central accommodation can simplify arrival and restaurant choices. For a traditional house experience, search Chodang-area hanok stays and confirm that the property offers overnight rooms and your preferred bedding.

Accommodation map links are area searches, not confirmed bookings. Check the exact address, bedding, private bathroom, step-free access and cancellation terms with the property.
A central base can help with meals and station transfers, while Gyeongpo or Anmok suits a coast-focused evening. Compare the actual distance to a bus stop. An ocean-view property farther along the coast may be less convenient without a car.
Arrive from Seoul and leave your bags at your accommodation if storage is available. Visit Ojukheon, try Chodang tofu, then spend the afternoon around Gyeongpo Beach and lake.
Head to Anmok for coffee and a beach walk. Leave time for the journey back to Gangneung Station; the cafés are not beside the platform.

The east coast can be breezy even on a sunny day. Summer beach activity and quiet off-season walks feel very different. Bring a layer for the waterfront and check coastal notices before planning swimming or exposed viewpoints.
Choose a short beach promenade or museum visit if you want less climbing. Mountain excursions have separate demands and should not be inferred from the ease of reaching Gangneung by train. Ask about the specific attraction entrance and accessible facilities.
Ojukheon's indoor displays and a longer café stop can help balance an unsettled day. Keep a flexible beach window instead of expecting clear skies at a particular time. Protect the final ride to the station.
Gangneung’s coffee culture also has a festival. Check the organiser’s current programme before choosing travel dates.
